In the Company of Wolves; Costume Study.

Last Night i watched the film 'In the Company of Wolves' which is based on an Angela Carter Book and is basically a re-telling of the story of little red riding hood. I really liked the costumes in this film, she only really had two full costumes but throughout the film they were worn in different combinations to create a variety of outfits. While i was watching i did some quick costume sketches which i later coloured on my computer.
I really like her second costume, with the red floral skirt, black velvet bodice and traditional red cloak, i think if i get chance over the summer i might try and make at least one of these costumes for myself.

I will also take this opportunity to tell you all about the online shop i am planning on opening. I am thinking over the summer trying to sell some costumes of mine, specifically 18th century stays. I will make a variety of styles of stays to a variety of standard sizes (eg size 10, 12, 14 etc).

an example of some 18th century stays that i made in the past.

Sweeney Todd

For our most recent project at ECA we had to design costumes and set for the musical Sweeney Todd. It was my fist ever set project and making the model was so much more difficult than i expected, still i am really happy wth the results and i like the way my costume illustratons turned out. All in all, a fun project :)

Click the photo for lager veiw of costumes, i havent taken indivdual photographs yet.

My set design was a revolving set, with Sweeney Todds barbe shop and pie shop on the one side and johannas bedroom on the other.

I got a proper camera for Christmas, and i have become just a wee bit camera happy, However, i wanted to share some of my favourite photographs from over this festive season. All in all, i had a marvelous Christmas Holidays (despite the lack of snow) and I hope everyone had similarly nice times. I apologise for the ridiculous length of the post, but i havent worked out how to do the 'more photos after the jump' thing that i have seen on some peoples blogs, if anyone could advise me in that, i would very much appreciate it!

On to the Photos!

18th century stays

Just a pair of stays i have been making since the beginning of my holidays, I was planning on making more but the sewing machine broke, so this will be all i make over christmas.
It is inspired by this real 18th century bodice http://defunctfashion.tumblr.com/post/1374855216/corset-c-late-18th-century
and this dress from sweeny todd
http://costumersguide.com/sweeney/j-cap14.jpg
and yes, i know sweeny todd is not set in the 18th century, but its pretty so shhhh

The colours dont look so good on the photos as real life, the stays are a light, ice blue and the tulle skirt (H&M by the way) is a light dusty pink. Is it just me or does it have a kind of Alice in Wonderlandy feel about it? If only i still had my long blonde hair, that would be a perfect costume. Neevvver Mind.
Might not post anything else until after christmas at least, so
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Recycle your old books, maps etc

So, i am now on my Christmas holidays after the first semester of my second year at ECA, and i had a heap of textilesy projects in mind for my week break. Unfortunately, my sewing machine is in Edinburgh and my mums has juts broken, so those projects are going to have to be put on the back burner. Instead, to keep myself busy, i have turned to paper-y crafts. I have started using the website 'Stumble', which has me stumbling upon so many fun and crafty projects.
I have got a bit carried away! These paper flowers are so fun and easy to make! Good bit of recycling and pretty decoration that will never die!
